Don’t just make a New Year’s resolution for yourself this year—get your pet involved!

Think of some unhealthy habits you and your furry friend have fallen into over the past year—whether it’s pet exercise or your pet’s emotional health—and make an effort to truly change.

Looking for some ideas?

In this post we’re sharing five resolutions you and your four-legged friend can make this year.

Going for regular walks

Have you fallen into the habit of flopping on the couch when you get home from work? Both you and your pet will reap the benefits of daily exercise.

Your pet has been sitting at home all day, and if you’re like many Americans, you’ve been sitting at a desk for most of the day.

Getting some fresh air and exercise together will boost your overall mood and help keep you active.

Devoting time each day to bond with each other

It’s easy to take each other for granted. Make it a routine to devote a certain amount of time each day for playing, cuddling, and spending time with one another.

You both will love the extra attention and joy it brings to interact with each other.

Feeding healthier options

Of course, with New Year’s resolutions come healthier eating habits—your pet’s diet is important, too. Store-bought food and treats often contain unhealthy ingredients for your pet, such as grains and flour, which can cause inflammatory and allergic reactions in dogs.

Why not make your pet’s food and decrease the chance of disease?

Going to regular check-ups

Getting regular check-ups is just as important for your pet as it is for you. Taking preventative measures to check on your pet’s health is so important to combat potentially costly (and maybe fatal) health issues down the road.

Being better about oral hygiene

Don’t forget about your pet’s oral hygiene! Brush his or her teeth (don’t use human toothpaste—fluoride is poisonous for pets), purchase chew toys and bones that help clean teeth, and ask your veterinarian for tips.

Start your pet’s New Year with a healthy diet.
