Using coconut oil for pets can help improve their health, inside and out.

Coconut oil is an amazing and versatile tool when it comes to managing your pet’s health. In fact, the seemingly endless benefits of coconut oil for pets may surprise you.

This plant-powered oil is a powerful, safe, all natural health booster. With anti inflammatory, antiviral, antibacterial and antifungal properties, coconut oil is a versatile go-to for pet home remedies.

Soothes and Heals Skin

This may be one of the most helpful features of coconut oil for pets. There are SO many ways it can help improve your pet’s skin condition.

If your pet has dry, itchy skin, coconut oil is a great solution. The high concentration of fats in coconut oil makes it incredibly hydrating. Massaging the oil into your pet’s skin will hydrate and soothe the itch, while helping to eliminate those irritating flakes.

Dog Scratching In GrassRemember those antifungal and antibacterial properties I mentioned? They come in handy here. Many pet skin conditions come from an overgrowth of fungus or bacteria. A daily layer of coconut oil on the skin can help your pet fight these itch-causing culprits.

Coconut oil can also help heal minor cuts, scrapes and cracked paw pads. The antibacterial and hydrating powers of the oil will help keep infection at bay (along with proper cleaning), while promoting healthy cell regrowth.

Rubbing your pet down wil coconut oil will also give their coat a glossy sheen, while possibly helping to keep parasites off of their coat. Just be sure your pet isn’t licking too much of the oil off their fur or skin. While ingesting coconut oil in moderation has incredible health benefits, too much of this good thing could lead to loose or greasy stool… yikes.

Aids Digestion and GI Health

As one of the ingredients in The Original CrockPET Diet, coconut oil is a powerful addition to your pet’s diet. It improves digestion, while also increasing nutrient absorption. In short, it helps your pet more efficiently get the most out of their nutritional food.

Combining healthy amounts of coconut oil with a potent probiotic can help manage a healthy balance of good bacteria in the gut, while eliminating harmful bacteria.

Coconut oil can also be helpful in relieving occasional, mild constipation. If Fido seems to be having a hard time, coconut oil can help get things moving.

Add a small amount to his next meal (start with 1/4 tsp), or offer a frozen coconut oil treat. Remember not to give your pet too much extra, as too much will leave your pet with a problem on the opposite end of the spectrum.

And if Fluffy is battling hairballs, a little bit of coconut oil can help her knock them out.

Eases Joint Pain

I know I’ve mentioned it before, but… Coconut oil has amazing anti-inflammatory powers.

And it can be used to ease joint pain in more than one way.

Of course, ingesting coconut oil will help it get straight to work, reducing inflammation and soothing discomfort right at the source. The fatty acids in the oil will also boost the healing ability of healthy cells and joint tissue. You can also apply coconut oil topically to help ease joint pain. Mix it with equal parts aloe, and give your pet a soothing massage.

Improves Dental and Oral Health

Cat Yawning

Bad breath is usually caused by a buildup of bacteria, and that is no different for our pets.

Try brushing your pet’s teeth and gums with some coconut oil. It will help kill some of the bacteria in between their teeth and gum, and alsohelp strengthen their teeth.

If your pet is one of the many that won’t tolerate any tooth brushing nonsense, try getting them to at least allow you to rub it on their gums. Many pets will even eat it straight (again, those frozen treats will come in handy here).

The idea is just to get some into those choppers to work its magic. It may take a few weeks of regular “brushing” to notice a difference. If you still think your pet needs help with their dental health, consider adding PlaqueOff, and ask your veterinarian about a dental cleaning.

Energy Booster

Coconut oil contains about 64% Medium Chain Fatty Acids. This is GOOD fat that your pet needs in their diet to stay healthy.

These fatty acids can benefit your pet in lots of ways. They help balance the thyroid, which allows your pet to properly metabolize food and maintain a healthy weight.

Adding coconut oil, with those healthy fatty acids, can actually help overweight pets shed some pounds. Aside from regulating thyroid function, medium chain triglycerides also provide a great energy boost.

Pets who would otherwise be energy deficient (due to excessive weight or lack of exercise), will have more energy to get moving and actually feel better. The anti inflammatory bonus that comes with coconut oil will also ease the joint pain that many overweight or senior pets experience.

It’s worth noting that while coconut oil has a great fatty acid content, it doesn’t pa pack any of Omega-3’s that are vital for healthy pets. So, don’t skip your pet’s regular dose of fish oil.

Coconut Oil is a Great Bonus for Pets

Whether you’re using it as a diet ingredient, topical elixir or both, coconut oil is a great, natural way to boost pet health. You can help your friend fight off many annoying conditions or ailments with the right application of coconut oil for pets.
