CrockPET Diet for cats

3 Tips to Switch Your Cat to The Original CrockPET Diet

As you become more familiar with the benefits of homemade pet food, you might be thinking, “My dog will love it, but I’ll never convince my cat to eat it!” This is one of our most frequent concerns, but it’s surprisingly simple to overcome!

We are going to share a few tips we have learned over the years from our cat patients eating The Original CrockPET Diet. If your kitty isn’t interested or he is a picky eater, here are the 3 possible reasons why:

  • Texture
  • Ingredients
  • Time

Texture

Many cats will reject new food because of a difference in texture. One of the biggest hurdles with cooked food is that the texture is probably unlike any food they’ve eaten before.

Cats who already eat canned food seem to adapt to home-cooked food the easiest. If you’re feeding kibble only and your kitty has rejected cooked food, you might start by gradually switching to canned food before reintroducing the CrockPET Diet.

Why does your cat prefer dry kibble? The kibble is coated in oil which coats in the inside of your cat’s mouth and makes them crave more—just like a potato chip works with us. That addiction can be hard to break, but is the first step in a healthier cat so don’t give up!

Some cats prefer a different texture of CrockPET than others. Some of our cats seem to prefer the shredded meat and chunks shown on the left side of the photo below.

However, many of our patients prefer the pâté texture on the right of the photo, because it is similar to canned food. The chunky texture is achieved with a simple potato masher, and the pâté is achieved with an immersion or traditional blender.

Ingredients

The ingredients in The Original CrockPET Diet are also different than most cats are accustomed to, such as the seasonings and veggies. If your cat is rejecting his new diet, try a batch without turmeric and mustard and with fewer veggies. Butternut squash and carrots have a mild flavor and usually are okay to leave in this experimental batch. Once your kitty is eating this version well, slowly add the other ingredients into the following batches.

Time

Last, but not least, TIME! Cats, as we know, are finicky creatures and need time to adjust to change. First, mix just a taste of the The Original CrockPET Diet into his regular food, and then slowly add more over time. The overwhelming majority of our patients have successfully converted to cooked food with these tips and time.

Our cats LOVE The Original CrockPET Diet and have seen tremendous health benefits thanks to extra moisture and wholesome ingredients. Weight loss, urinary and kidney health, skin and coat health, and inflammation-based disease prevention are among the life-changing benefits for your feline friend.
