Hello and good morning! I’m Dr Ruth Roberts, your pets ally. I am glad you all are sending in some questions.

Is Dr Marty’s ProPower Plus good for dogs?

So, Pro Power Plus Dog Approved says that it is for the digestive health and it got everything your pets need to optimize their health.
Basically, the ingredients are all digestive enzymes such as Bromelain, Bacillus Coagulans, Lactobacillus Acidophilus, Bifidobacterium Lactis, and Longum a two separate species, Fructose Oligosaccharides a prebiotic, and then Lactobacillus Plantarum which are all human probiotics which you can also find in the symbiotic. Gum Acacia is a prebiotic cellulose plant fiber and then we have the super foods; champignon, mushroom extract, kelp (Ascophyllum nodosum) which is a species of kelp that helps to get the bacteria off of the teeth and then thallus powder.
It has a really excellent marketing but this is not a supplement to balance your health. It’s also a tiny jar, it’s 2.2 ounces and the other thing this does not say is how many scoops are in a certain amount of scoops per dog per day and how big are the scoops so that’s which are a little bit frustrating. It also has really bad and equally confusing labelling. You can try this, it may or may not help with the number of prebiotics that are present in there, that may or may not be good. So, if you can return it, I would return it. It has a really excellent marketing but this is not a supplement to balance your health. Is it safe to use Colloidal Silver for pets?

Generally, Colloidal Silver is considered to be a natural antibiotic, it is still an antibiotic so for that reason, I typically want to use it topically and not internally. For instance, we’ve got gooey toes or a wound on the outside, that’s where I would use it because again, any antibiotic you use whether that is a prescription one or a natural one, it is going to wreak havoc in the gut so whether that’s Colloidal Silver or Olive Leaf Extract, or Oregano Oil, or Grapefruit Oil, all of those are going to create issues and considering it’s metal, I tend to avoid it internally. I hope that’s helpful.

Is it fine if the results of the ultrasound all looked the same? And what are the signs to look out for in terms of Gallbladder sludging?

Homogeneity or the quality of something being all the same is a good thing in ultrasound. Now, for the concerns regarding the gallbladder, if it looked like it has a dark circle kind of in the middle of the liver which can look really huge or can look really small. If it’s all dark, that means there’s no gallbladder sludging, if there was kind of a gray stuff at the bottom of it, that means there is gallbladder sludging and so that’s when it’s appropriate to use Ursodiol. So, see if the Ursodiol helps to get rid some of that liver enzyme elevation

What helps with nausea and vomiting in pets?

If you feel like the nausea is due to the various medications and supplement that your pet has been on, they need something to kind of settle their gut. Dramamine actually helps with nauseas but that’s where things like Pepcid AC and things of that nature are a better idea.  Assuming that your pet is actually eating a lot better now but it’s not a balanced diet, the other thing that you may consider is kind of backing out everything except for the ones you think are critical and see if that changes things because if we sit there with this soup of stuff for a long period of time, sometimes things shift in out body leading to us not needing them anymore.
For instance, I took really high doses of Alpha Lipoic Acid for a long time and then 6 to 8 months later I started dropping the dose down and realized that it’s what’s been making me feel nauseous. So, I would really re – visit what you’re giving and back down to what you think are the absolute necessities to keep your pet comfortable at this point. And if she’s only going for proteins, generally, that means that she just is super nauseous or there’s something else going on that’s just making her not want to eat. So, again, take everything out that you think is unnecessary. If you feel like you got good help from the Gabapentin as far as pain relief and improving your mobility, do that if you feel that the NSAIDs really helped, do that but take it all out and then make sure you add it back in.

And again, because you all are Ipet’s Ally members, we’re offering consultations still at 100 bucks instead of 150 so if that so if that helps you, happy to jump on and get a call going with you. So, I hope all is well and that’s what I’ve got for you this week so until next Monday, take good care and give everybody a hug. Thanks!
